It apparently was suggested by a Christian radio listener, and just kind of caught on. It is a way honor the following verse from the Bible on March 16th or 3 16:
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
A bit severe – either you perish or you have eternal life – but that’s how those religions role. Regardless of where you’re religious leanings lie, it’s important for us all to try to understand – and respect – the beliefs of others. A lesson that is important to pass on to our children. And John 3 16 is a pretty good launching point to start a conversation about what some Christians hold as truth.
